A community college and four-year university are located within city limits and provide a variety of educational opportunities. The Best Southwest Small Business Development Center is also located in Cedar Hill at Cedar Valley Center. Cedar Hill ISD as well as area private primary and secondary schools have been recognized for excellence.

Northwood University

Northwood University is located in the beautiful wooded hills near Joe Pool Lake on a 350-acre campus. Northwood offers four-year Bachelor of Business Administration degrees and two-year Associate degrees. Fifteen programs are offered included: accounting, marketing, international business, hotel and restaurant management, fashion marketing, advertising and general business. The university was established in Cedar Hill in 1966.

Cedar Valley Center at Cedar Hill

The new Cedar Valley Center at Cedar Hill offers state-of-the-art job training facilities including free counseling, research assistance, job skill assessment, distance learning, teleconferencing and business counseling through the Small Business Development Center. Traditional classes in technology, business, art, medical, language, real estate and law enforcement are also available.

Strayer University

University of North Texas - Dallas Campus (12 minutes from Cedar Hill)

The UNT Dallas campus began offering classes in Fall, 1999, while construction of a new campus began. The new campus opened Fall, 2005.

Cedar Hill ISD

Cedar Hill ISD (www.chisd.com) is a 5A District with over 7,900 students and 14 schools. It has over 1,000 employees including 429 teachers, and had 532 seniors graduate in 2011. CHISD has a budget of approximately $74 million with a $1.50 tax rate for 2011. The district is the largest emloyer in the City of Cedar Hill.

The CHISD opened a new Ninth Grade Center and Middle School in 2005 to meet the growing population and honor their commitment to providing a world-class educational system. In 2008, the ISD District Offices moved into the new Cedar Hill Government Center with the City of Cedar Hill municipal government offices. Their partnership was the first of its kind in the state, and provides a unique opportunity for all facets of the community to work together to deliver quality services to the citizens of Cedar Hill.

CHISD has a Board of Trustees that is comprised of seven at-large positions by place. Trustees serve three-year staggered terms. Regular board meetings take place each month at the T.W. Turk Cannady Cedar Hill room located in the Municipal Government Center. The public is welcome to attend.
