Cedar Hill has become the shopping and eating destination for Southern Dallas County & surrounding counties. Since 1999, Cedar Hill's retail sector has added more than two million square feet of retail and boasts of a 99% occupancy rate (2006).
Uptown Boulevard Development Uptown Boulevard, the major thoroughfare that ties Belt Line Road (and the city's Main Street district) to FM 1382, has become one of Cedar Hill's hottest retail and restaurant spots. The Uptown area includes Uptown Village, Cedar Hill Village, a 14-screen Cinemark, Havertys, Wal-Mart, Cedar Hill Town Center and Cedar Hill Towne Crossing. The infrastructure for Uptown Boulevard was partially funded by the 4-A tax funds.
In addition, the city's new government center is located on Uptown Boulevard and will houses city offices, police station and school district offices. In September, 2003, more than 75% of Cedar Hill residents who voted approved a modern new government building to be located on Uptown Boulevard.
Medical Office Development Baylor Healthcare Systemhas entered the Cedar Hill market for the first time as part of the new 12,000 SF professional office building being constructed on Uptown.
Methodist Medical Center opened a free-standing 25,000 SF outpatient center in January 2008 on Belt Line Road.
CareNow and PrimaCare have also expanded to Cedar Hill.
Hotel Development Both LaQuinta and Holiday Inn Express (under contruction) are between Wintergreen and Pleasant Run on US 67 in 2008.

Uptown VillageUptown Village, Cedar Hill's upscale lifestyle center held its grand opening celebration in March 2008. The 800,000 SF lifestyle shopping venue includes Dillards, Barnes & Noble, Dick's and some 75 additional boutique stores and six fine-dining restaurants. The Village is bound by Highway 67 to the east, FM 1382 on the south, Pleasant Run Road on the north, and Cedar Hill Road on the west. The Uptown Village development was recently awarded the 2006 Best Real Estate Deal in Retail/Hospitality by Dallas Business Journal.
Pleasant Run Towne Crossing This retail area giant first opened in 2003 with 409,000 SF of retail including anchors like Super Target, Circuit City, Sport's Authority, and Bed Bath & Beyond. Restaurants that have sprouted up on nearby pad sites are Joe's Crab Shack, Buffalo Wild Wings, Salt Grass Steak House and Panera Bread.
Cedar Hill Town Center Phases I & II opened with a combined 45,000 SF & Phase III will add another 11,000 SF when completed. Phase IV will offer a combined 75,000 SF of Class-A office and retail space when open in early 2009.
Cedar Hill Pointe Cedar Hill Pointe, which opened in 2005, includes Best Buy, Rooms to Go Beds, Wolf Camera and other retail stores.
Plaza at Cedar Hill This 260,000 SF retail center was completed in the fall, 2000, and includes a variety of large and small stores including: Old Navy, Pier One, Macaroni Grill, David's Seafood, Chili's, Hobby Lobby and Office Max.
Cedar Hill Village This 70-acre retail center is part of a master plan that includes linking a new city hall and historic Main Street district to innovative retail, residential, office and entertainment developments.
The Village includes retail frontage along US Hwy 67, restaurants, office space and a stand-alone 100,000 SF JC Penney. The Penny's prototype is one of only three of its kind to be built in the United States. These prototype stores contain all of the same merchandise as a traditional JC Penney, except for furniture, but are 28% smaller in size and maximize unit sales per square foot.
The Ranch at Cedar Hill Phase I of the Ranch at Cedar Hill, at Hwy 67 at Wintergreen, houses a combination of unique restaurants and upscale shops including: The Ranch Steak House, Veracruz Restaurant, Visual Expressions, Paradise Cowboy and Century 21 Judge Fite Realty. Phase II opened in January, 2008 with some 30,000 SF. Phase III will provide an additional 52,000 SF of retail and office space.
Cedar Hill Crossing This large retail area, which includes anchors like Home Depot, Kohl's, and Staples, was Cedar Hill's first major new retail development to target the growing population of the region. After the Crossing opened in 2000, the Plaza at Cedar Hill as well as Cedar Hill Town Center followed in 2002. Pleasant Run Towne Center and Cedar Hill Village both opened in 2003.
The Market at Cedar Hill Kroger's, Conn's and Western Wear anchor this center and includes other local businesses.
Lakeridge Village This was one of Cedar Hill's first retail developments before the recent boom with 132,000 SF.
Main Street/Downtown Since 2000, Cedar Hill has participated in the Texas Main Street Program, which is offered through the Texas Historical Commission. By focusing on Economic Development within the context of historic preservation, Main Street has proven to be the most effective economic development tool yet.
To date, Cedar Hill has experienced reinvestment of over $14.5 million within its downtown area. This is proof of a renewed energy and interest in developing in the downtown area.
