CEDAR HILL EDC ROLLS OUT BUSINESS RETENTION PLANCedar Hill EDC to present expanded strategic plan for its Business Retention and Expansion Program to City council on 2/10. - 2/6/2009
CEDAR HILL, Texas, Feb. 6, 2009 – The Cedar Hill Economic Development Corporation (EDC) will be rolling out a new expanded strategic plan for its Business Retention and Expansion program at the pre-Council briefing on Tues., Feb. 10 at 6 PM.
The plan, which was approved by the EDC’s Board of Directors late last year, will have its official roll-out at the Council’s briefing session with a presentation by Business Retention and Marketing Manager Michaela Dollar.
“Since up to 80 percent of new job growth can be attributed to existing businesses, it is vital in economic development to foster the businesses you already have in your community,” Dollar said. “That’s why business retention programs are used, to open the lines of communication and build relationships with local businesses.”
The program is structured around individual business visits to Cedar Hill business owners or managers. They are meant to build relationships between business leaders and the EDC so that as opportunities or obstacles arise, they are able to turn to the EDC for assistance.
“With a goal of two to four visits per week, we should be able to get a general idea of the state of the local business community in about six months. Then we can see what needs there are and how best to address them,” said Dollar.
EDC Director Allison Thompson feels that business retention is needed now more than ever.
“With the slow-down in the economy, business retention programs are especially important,” she said. “We need to make sure that our local businesses are able to keep going and try to assist in any way that we can. They are our backbone and we need to keep it strong.”
